The armies which were in heaven are glorified saints described in similar terms of purity in v.8. This best seen as the time of the Rapture, as the church triumphant rises to meet Christ and the other returning saints (who have died) in the air at His return. The raptured saints shall then immediately return to Earth with Christ and the others.
